Food

cabinmeal.jpg
Gold Arrow campers and staff enjoy three meals per day in our open-air dining porch overlooking Big Creek stream and the beautiful Sierras. We provide campers and staff with delicious, well-balanced meals and offer a variety of options at each meal. We believe great food is an important part of our camp experience.

Campers dine family-style while sitting with their cabin group and counselors. Kitchen Patrol (KP) gives campers an opportunity to help with the set up and clean up of their cabin’s table during meals. Counselors encourage good table manners and monitor that campers are eating well-balanced meals. Camp Moms check campers’ hands upon entering the dining porch to help ensure the health of our camp community.

Menu

porch.jpgMenu items are selected to provide nutritional meals that appeal to campers. A sample menu has been provided below. When feeding many people, we understand that it’s important to provide choices. Although we do not provide different entrees or special meals for vegetarians, many choices are available at each meal. Some of the daily options, in addition to our regular menu items, include:

Breakfast
Fresh juices (variety offered at juice machine)
Milk (nonfat, 2%, soy)
Hot cocoa
Assorted fresh fruit, cold cereals and yogurt
Hard boiled eggs
Oatmeal (raisins, brown sugar, sliced almonds- optional)
Assorted toast and bagels with condiments (jelly, peanut butter, cream cheese, honey)

Lunch
Assorted fresh fruit
Sandwich bar with peanut better & jelly and tuna, chicken or egg salad.
Salad bar with fresh vegetables, grated cheese, diced chicken or tuna, croutons, sunflower seeds, assorted dressings, etc.

Dinner
Assorted fresh fruit
Pasta Bar (2 pasta choices, white sauce, tomato sauce, butter, and parmesan cheese)
Salad bar (see description under Lunch)

Above options are subject to change.

banquet.jpgIn addition to our regular fare, at the end of each session, campers and staff enjoy a special banquet. The dining porch and menu are transformed to match the theme of the banquet. See our Summer Calendar for the banquet themes of each session.

Snacks are not provided throughout the day, however, campers enjoy marshmallows or popcorn at their nightly campfires. Campers requiring snacks between meals for medical reasons will be accommodated.

Birthdays

birthday.jpgBirthdays are celebrated at Gold Arrow Camp! If your child’s birthday falls during their camp session, a decorated birthday cake is made in their honor and is shared with their cabin group. The camper is seated on a chair and lifted up by counselors as everyone on the dining porch sings Happy Birthday. A picture documents the special occasion and is posted in the on-line photo gallery.

Food Allergies

If your child has a food allergy and you have questions regarding our accommodations for that particular allergy, please call our camp office at (800) 554-2267. We inform our kitchen staff, nurses, and counselors of camper allergies.
